This weekend we celebrated Ashley's upcoming 12th birthday a little bit early ... because she will be spending her *actual* birthday (the whole day and then some) on an airplane as we travel from Mongolia to California where we will spend a glorious 3-weeks of Spring Break. We plan to eat our weight in avocados, strawberries and whatever other nummies we've had to do without since moving to Mongolia last summer. Ohhhhhh, yeah!
In addition to her excitement upon opening electronic-related gifts, I love that Ashley still takes pleasure in some of the simple things in life (rubber ducks, colored construction paper) ... knowing full well that next year when she is officially a teenager she may turn her attention to more things 'recommended' by her peers and move away from that cute little girl we've loved for 12 wonderful years.
Her new flip flops from Lands End ... about to get some use on So. Cal. beaches :-D
If you look closely, you may spot Ashley's Padawan braid. She is a jedi-in-training, you know. I think she's read nearly every Star Wars related book there is ... anyway, I think it's neat that she a passion for this series and wants to be like those who are 'guardians of peace and justice'. She has her own light saber and now I know what she plans to do with it ...
