Today marks two months since son #2 had ankle surgery. Also, today he had his first physical therapy session. Like it or not, he has new homework. Three times per day he will need to do three different stretches, multiple repetitions. His calf muscles and achilles tendon need to be strengthened and he kinda needs to re-learn how to walk (with the new tendon it feels different!).
He has gone from cast to splint to boot, all with the aid of crutches to get around, and is now in tennis shoes with a walking cane. He got to be so fast on those crutches that one of the ladies who works in the school's office wanted to sign him up for the "crutches olympics." She was certain he would come in first place; he was so speedy down the halls.
Now he is moving much slower, but is headed in the right direction for continued recovery. AND ... here's the best part .... he has a hand free! You can do so much more with one empty hand than when you've gotta use both hands to hold crutches.
So ... he's getting there. Slow and steady will win this 'race'.
**Note: I was going to add a picture, but blogger is having a hissy-fit and won't do it. So maybe tomorrow. Sorry.
