Happy 4th of July! We attended a fun picnic with our fellow Americans yesterday to celebrate the birth of our fine nation. We were fortunate to enjoy the music of the US Marine Forces Pacific Band playing our National Anthem and additional patriotic pieces as well as modern popular music. Great entertainment! Both children and adults participated in a patriotic parade either marching on foot or some riding their decorated bicycles, tricycles and strollers. This well attended event was staffed entirely by volunteers, quite a few were from the LDS Church. A senior missionary couple passed out USA flags, led the parade and helped young children decorate themselves and their bikes. Other missionaries cooked the burgers, hotdogs and bratwursts, made potato salad and helped with crowd control. An enthusiastic team of young missionaries even participated in the potato sack race! That was lots of fun to watch =) There was also a Mongolian eagle handler with his eagle and mini 4x4 vehicle at the picnic. Brian's favorite part of the day was a visit to the ice cream vendor, although riding his decorated tricycle was a close second. Under the gorgeous blue Mongolian sky the day was pretty near perfect for a fun picnic.
