Today being President's Day, the Embassy was closed and Charles had the day off work. The children still had school, however, since their school only recognizes local holidays. With the luxury of several hours of time to ourselves, we decided to visit the Sky Resort (just a few miles from our house) and enjoy a couple hours of sledding. The temperature was a very comfortable 20 F with a clear, blue sky and extra sunshine. Some day maybe I will summon enough courage to try skiing, but for now I was content to zoom down the icy hill in a seated position. We arrived at the resort just as they were preparing to open for the day and the groomer was still on the hill so we were able to watch. We had the place nearly to ourselves which made it so fun! To the right of the sled hill there is a 'magic carpet' escalator to quickly get you back to the top of the hill. That makes it pretty easy to fit in a lot of rides down the hill in just a short amount of time. Thankfully, there are no injuries to report ... and the two of us were able to enjoy a nice quiet lunch at the Irish Castle restaurant near Zaisan when we finished our sledding adventure. An awesome date!
