He and four fellow scouts went to the Shenandoah River, about 90 minutes drive from our home, and enjoyed all the usual fun scouting stuff like, pitching tents, cooking tin foil meals, camp fires, flag ceremonies, making pancakes & bacon, etc. and also spent some time with the adult leaders who enjoy fishing so they could learn all about it.
Son #2 was brave and wasted no time baiting his hook with worms and crickets. A leader told me that son #2 caught FOUR fish! It's catch and release, though, so they didn't clean and eat the ones they caught. A leader brought along some purchased fish that each scout took a turn to clean and fillet as part of Friday night's dinner. They cooked those fish in foil over the fire along with the tin foil dinners they brought from home. Son #2 told me he thought the fish were delicious -- I'm pleasantly surprised! I'm not a fan of eating fish, neither fresh nor saltwater. I'm glad my opinion has not discouraged son from making up his own mind.
The scouts stopped on the way home for a special treat from the Apple House shop in Linden, VA to get some scrumptious apple cinnamon donuts.
