Grateful for Small Things

A couple weeks ago Ian and a friend braved the cold and headed to the ski resort to enjoy a day of snowplay to celebrate Ian's recent 15th birthday. The conditions were right for Ian to try snowboarding for the first time. He made it through the lesson with great success and then headed up to the top of the slope to take his first run. The first run ended with Ian stopped at the bottom of the hill and then slipping just enough to fall backwards and land the wrong way on his arm with the left wrist bearing the brunt of the fall. Ouch.

He had to call it quits, unfortunately, and go see the resort doctor, who quickly diagnosed it as a bad sprain.
About 48 hours later, due to some swelling and pain, I took Ian to see another doctor so an x-ray could be taken to verify that the bones were in tact. After 2 sets of x-rays, a CT scan, a plaster cast for 2 days, a wrist brace and 4 consecutive doctor visits later ... it was still just a bad sprain. Thankfully no bones were broken. Grateful for small things!
