There was Vanguard card playing, beef jerkey eating, star/moon gazing, tent sleeping and general fun having, amongst the boys.
I successfully encouraged older son to take some photos so his somewhat worried mother could see that things were all right. He even acquiesced to a brief FaceTime to show the campsite all set up before dark.
Everyone and everything came home in one piece the next day, including the car. Score.
