Son #2 celebrated his 12th birthday in April. His last year as a pre-teen! Husband was here on an R&R from that place and we enjoyed some low-key family time together. Since the birthday was on a Friday, husband took son for a camp out at Lake Fairfax. They picked up Subway sandwiches, son's favorite, on their way out there so they could enjoy an easy dinner. They also made a camp fire in the evening and took a hike around the lake before coming home Saturday morning.

A week or so later son #1 arranged for some friends who enjoy playing Cardfight Vanguard to come over and have a small tournament to celebrate with son #2, who also likes to play. Of course, where there are teenage boys there must also be pizza, soda and all manner of delicious junk food snacks.

Son also loves to play games or watch Netflix on my iPad so he's saving up his money so he can buy one of his own this summer. When I asked him what he wanted for his birthday he replied "money toward an iPad" so that's what he got. Easy for mom, exactly what he wanted ... a win-win ... so, everybody happy.

I should mention that he will be earning some additional money from mom when he enthusiastically makes the most of summer strings camp this June/July. It's a three week intensive program which is the equivalent of an entire year of violin study, if you work hard and apply yourself. Which he has agreed to do ... without complaining or frowning or any of that pre-teen negative emotive stuff ...
Son #2 recently performed in the Spring Orchestra concert at his school. It was his last performance at the Elementary level. (no pics because the paparazzi took the evening off) He also had his audition for middle school orchestra, but we haven't heard back what the results of that were yet.
