was spotted somewhere in our county so the schools were all put on lock down for about an hour. This happened around 3 pm so since the middle school kids were all being transported home at the time, several buses of kids were taken to Ian and Ashley's school where the children were kept safe until the storm passed by. This meant a subsequent dismissal delay for all the elementary kids since all the buses were still busy doing their middle school runs. Anyway, then this statement was made on the school's website:
Wednesday, June 4, 2008, Emergency Announcement: Emergency Announcement update as of 4:40 PM: Because of a tornado warning, students were kept in schools beginning about 2:55 PM. The warning was lifted about 3:30 PM. Students have been released. Please be patient with FCPS transportation, buses will be delayed one and one half hours, or more due to road closures. If you're going to an after-school or evening activity, please check the school's web site, because some are without power.
So, instead of my children arriving home at 4 pm they got here at 5:21 pm. Yup. Love how the announcement is made a solid 40 minutes *after* the bus was supposed to be here ...

Oh, that's lovely! Instead of telling you at 3:30 which is when it was lifted, and they should have known at that point how far behind things were. Great that they keep you so well informed like that. Sheesh! Glad everyone was safe, though! Scary!
